This fall, the Brookdale Park Conservancy is thrilled to welcome the award winning pruning crew from the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County (RMGEC). Comprised of highly trained volunteers, the group recently completed over 300 volunteer hours of hard labor in Branch Brook Park - home to the largest cherry tree collection in the country - by helping prune 1400 of the park’s 4200 trees. Their work in Brookdale park is set to begin this fall and will continue into the spring and summer of 2016 focusing on Brookdale's young collection of dogwoods, new street trees and ornamental shrubs.
The RMGEC are no strangers to Brookdale Park. Currently, volunteers in their organization help to maintain both the Essex County Rose Garden and the pollinator garden beds at the center of the park.
It’s high time to give thanks to a volunteer group that has been working in Brookdale Park and throughout Essex County for decades. If you have room on your charitable giving list this year, please consider supporting the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County.
