Take one gorgeous fall day, 25 or so hard-working volunteers, breakfast and what do you get? Twenty-five truckloads of overgrown foliage and debris cleared away during the very first Brookdale Park Conservancy (BPC) cleanup!
Volunteers from surrounding Bloomfield, Montclair and Glen Ridge gathered on Saturday, November 1st at 9am near the Bellevue Avenue entrance to Essex County's Brookdale Park. During the four-hour cleanup—with the enthusiastic cooperation of Ray Tucci, Brookdale Maintenance Supervisor and John Vespucci, County Crew — the volunteers removed fallen branches, unwanted saplings and invasive species in order to renew growth of the Olmsted selected trees and shrubs planted back in the 1930's.
“We were very pleased with the volunteer turn-out and the assistance we received from the Essex County Parks Department,” said Howark Falk, the BPC’s Chair. “We also want to thank Hot Bagels Abroad on Broad Street and the Bloomfield Shoprite for providing refreshments for our volunteers.”
