Help Our New Trees!
Over 100 trees were planted by Essex County Public Works as part of a dog park buffer for the nearby residents. It's also helping to re-establish the plantings that were around the park originally. The plant selection is a mix of evergreens including spruces, hemlocks, cedars and pines as well as flowering dogwoods. The plants were selected based on historic planting plans, existing conditions, budget and availability.
However, there were no plans in place by Public Works to keep them all watered. George Prell, Co-Chair of the Conservancy, began this watering inititative and the hoses are set up and watering has begun due to the efforts of a small number of volunteers - thanks to Carolyn Burton, Paul Cote, Barbara Miller, Nick Joanow, and Mike Ser.
Thanks to Mike, you can now easily schedule yourself and water whenever you can! Please enter your name, time and location on the schedule before you go out to water, or immediately after, so other volunteers know where you watered. The new trees and bushes are in a 5 block range from Gordonhurst to the Rose Garden and it's impossible to water it all in a few hours, so it helps to let your fellow tree savers know what you've done.
